   Résumé
   Pendant la 3e guerre punique, un patricien romain et son esclave Maciste sauvent une enfant qui devait être sacrifiée au dieu Baal. Ils l'élèvent. Elle devient la confidente de la reine Sophonisbe qui se suicide après la victoire de Scipion. Cabiria doit à nouveau être sacrifiée, mais Maciste la sauve et elle épouse le patricien.
   Commentaire
   Cabiria est la première superproduction de l'histoire du cinéma. Les figurants sont nombreux et les décors gigantesques. Pastrone s'y distingua par l'usage systématique du travelling, alors rarement utilisé. Non seulement il utilise le travelling avant et arrière et le travelling latéral, mais il innove en créant le travelling transversal, qu'on ne verra plus avant longtemps au cinéma. Le film, inégal mais remarquable souvent, exerça une influence considérable à Hollywood et décida certainement Griffith à se lancer dans ses superproductions.
